Sometimes, we forget about distant friends and relatives. Today was not one of those days. Last night, we received a call that a grandson we had not seen in 2 years was goin to have a four hour layover at DFW. We were all set to pick him up and spend a couple of quality hours with him. The flight was due in at 9:30 AM on American Airlines. I got up early, turned in my college assignments and pulled up the flight schedule. In big red letters the flight status showed, "FLIGHT STATUS – CANCELED". No reason given, so I checked the weather conditions in both Indiana and Texas. No weather conditions to delay flight. So, here we sit, missing you, our grandson. Thanks a lot American Airlines!
My husband is really bummed about this. He has not seen any of his children or grandchildren since April, 2008. Dillon has grown into a brilliant young man and has become an experienced traveler. Through school programs, he has traveled to South America, Europe, and around the U.S. When we last saw him, he was 15 years old. Now, he is a senior in high school and just about ready to take the big step into college.
This spring, we have several grandchildren graduating. Two from high school and one from college. In addition, I am graduating from college with an Associate’s Degree in Psychology. I hope to be able to take the walk to receive this long awaited (42 years) dream fullfilled. Since two of the grandchildren are in Indiana and one is in Arizona, we will not be able to attend their granduation ceremonies. The economy and the times have taken a bite out of finances and the funds for trips are just not there. So, congratulations to them on a job well done.
We miss you and we wish we could see you. Just know that you are in our hearts and minds and are not forgotten.
